  1. I just purchased an AlphaGIGABIT router, how do I log in?
    Open your web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Opera, etc.). In the Address Bar, type http://192.168.0.1, and press Enter. You will be prompted to enter a User Name and Password. The Default User Name is Admin and the Password can by default, be left blank. Click on Log In.

  2. How do I reset the default settings on my AlphaGIGABIT router?
    Simultaneously press the Reset button at the back of the router and the AlphaGAP button. After 15 Seconds, release the Reset button while keeping the AlphaGAP button pressed. When you see all the LED’s on the router flash, release the AlphaGAP button. Your Router will now be reset to the Factory Default settings.

  3. Is there a way, within Widows XP to find my AlphaGIGABIT router’s IP address?
    Click the Start button at the corner of your windows desktop. On the pop up menu that appears, click the Run button and type “cmd” into the Input field of the box that opens (or “command” in case of Windows 98). Click OK. A black window will open up with a flashing cursor. Type “ipconfig /all” in this window, and press Enter. This will run the command, and text will appear underneath the command you entered. Check for the value corresponding to Default Gateway. This value is the IP address of you router. It will appear in a numeric format e.g. 111.111.1.1.

  4. I have the AlphaGIGABIT Wireless router 8800. How can I use Wireless Distribution System (WDS)?
    Log into your router. Click the Advanced tab on the top menu bar. Click the Advanced Wireless tab on the left menu bar. Click the WDS Enable checkbox. Enter the MAC address for the WDS Access Point into the corresponding boxes. You can have maximum of 6 (Six) Access Points attached to one Router. Please assign a Static IP address to all the Access Points and force select the same channel on all the access points and routers. If you want to put security on the Wireless Network, only WEP is supported by WDS.

  5. What is a Ping test, can it be performed on an AlphaGIGABIT router, and how?
    Ping is a command line tool for Computers used to test if a particular host can be reached over the network.
    The following steps will help you perform the Ping Test
    The default IP address for your router is 192.168.0.1. If you wish to change you IP address, your new address can be used in place of the default.
    Ping Test:
    1.Click the Start button at the corner of your windows desktop. On the pop up menu that appears, click the Run button
    2.Type “cmd” into the Input field of the box that opens (or “command” in case of Windows 98). Click OK.
    3.Press Enter
    4.Type: ping 192.168.0.1(replace 192.168.0.1 with the IP address of the device you want to ping)
    5.Press Enter

    If the ping times out, or the host or net are unreachable, the test failed. This means the router is not communicating with your computer.

    If the IP address you sent the pings to replies, the test has passed and the router is properly communicating with your computer.

  6. How can the admin password be set or changed on my AlphaGIGABIT router?
    Log into your router and click on the Tools menu on the Menu Bar at the Top. At the window marked Admin Password, enter your newly chosen password in the password input box, re-entering it below for verification. The password entered in these fields must match. Press the Save the Settings button at the top. You will be prompted to reboot the router. Rebooting the router will change the router’s password to your newly chosen password. Please note, that choosing a password is a vital step in securing your network. Please choose a memorable, yet secret password, preferably containing symbols and numbers, and never reveal your password to anyone, especially children.

  7. I have set up my AlphaGIGABIT router and cannot get online. What could be wrong?
    AlphaGigabit Routers, by default, will measure both the speed and bandwidth of your Internet connection. It may take a few minutes to complete this test. This can be confirmed by logging into the Router. As soon as you log in, a message screen will inform you “The AlphaShield router is currently measuring your network connection. Accessing this web page might have an effect on the measurement. This page will refresh shortly.”
    If the process takes long and does not complete, press the reset button at the back of the AlphaGIGABIT Router and let the Router complete the above cycle.
    If you still can't access the Internet then, please check if the AlphaGAP is not enabled. This can be confirmed by checking if the AlphaGAP button’s corresponding LED is red. To disable AlphaGAP, press the AlphaGAP button to ensure the LED on the Button is green.

  8. Under Port Forwarding, the AlphaGIGABIT router has a Virtual Server Name and IP Address and Machine options. What are they, and to what do they refer?
    Virtual Servers are the predefined servers in the router that can be enabled and disabled on the router by the administrator. These are designed for ease of use and will open standard, required ports used for a particular server. It is very useful tool for Gaming and Hosting servers on your network.
    IP Address and Name is the list of all the computers that are connected to the Router. This will allow you to forward the ports for selected Server to a particular Computer connected to the Router. This list is based on the MAC address of the Computers connected to the Router.

  9. I have just purchased an AlphaGIGABIT router and cannot access the web-based connection wizard.
    Please check is there is power connected to the Router. Make sure that the RJ-45 cable is connected to both computer and the Router and corresponding LED is lit on.
    Please open you web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Opera, etc.). In the Address Bar type http://192.168.0.1, Press Enter. You will be prompted to enter the User Name and Password. Default User Name is “Admin” and Password is blank. Click on “Log In”

  12. How can I host a FTP server behind my AlphaGIGABIT router?
    Log in to your Router. Click on the Advanced Menu button, Click on Virtual Server on the Left hand Menu. Select the name of the server from the drop down menu and then select the machine on which you wish to host the FTP server. Select the Protocol. Enter the Private and Public Ports in their respective boxes and select the Filter and the Schedule. Click the Add button. This will allow you to Host the FTP server behind the router.

  13. How do I configure Static DHCP on my AlphaGIGABIT router?
    Log in to the router. Click setup on the Top Menu. Click on DHCP on the Left Menu. Check the Enable checkbox in the Add DHCP reservation. Select the computer for which you want to configure the Static DHCP. All the required information related to that Computer will be used to populate the Input Boxes. Click the ADD button. The Computer details will show in the DHCP Reservation list below the Add DHCP reservation area. Click the Save Setting button on the top. You will be prompted to reboot the router. Click the Reboot the Router button.

  14. What is DMZ?
    "Demilitarized Zone". A computer that logically sits in a "no-mans land" between the LAN and the WAN. The DMZ computer trades some of the protection of the router's security mechanisms for the convenience of being directly addressable from the Internet.

  15. What is DHCP?
    Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol: Used to automatically assign IP addresses from a predefined pool of addresses to computers or devices that request them
